Research Notes on Tegretol for Multiple Sclerosis
Tegretol is sometimes recommended in the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. Patients who suffer from shock-like pain may find that Tegretol brings relief, while those who suffer from a burning type of pain may be treated with a different medication. Tegretol should not be used for other types of pain. Common side effects of Tegretol include dizziness, nausea, hair loss, and loss of appetite.1

- Tegretol is a brand name of the generic medication carbamazepine.1
- MS is the most commonly diagnosed neurological condition in young adults.2
- MS is an autoimmune disease in which the body mistakenly attacks and destroys the protective covering on nerves.2
