Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Allen is 56 years old and received his diagnosis earlier this month.

Sjogren's Syndrome and Lymphoma

Approximately 5% of people affected with Sjogren's syndrome also develop lymphoma which is cancer of the lymph nodes. Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disease that most often affects the salivary glands and tear ducts. Dry mouth and dry eyes are common symptoms because the glands do not produce the proper amount of fluids.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Has Leukemia

Basketball great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has announced that he has been suffering from leukemia for almost a year. Abdul-Jabbar has chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), which was once considered a fatal disease, but oral medications may now keep it under control in up to 90% of patients.

Hand-Foot Syndrome

Hand-foot syndrome is a side effect of chemotherapy that causes a skin reaction that appears on the palms of the hands and/or the soles of the feet. Symptoms of hand-foot syndrome include tingling or numbness, swelling, redness, peeling skin, and tenderness or pain. Blistering can occur if there is no change in treatment.

Hand-foot syndrome typically occurs within a few weeks of beginning chemotherapy, although it can appear at any time.
Hand-foot syndrome can be treated by changing treatment, or taking acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen, corticosteroids, and/or vitamin B6.
