Saxagliptin and Pregnancy

There are no adequate studies on the effect of saxagliptin on a fetus. It is considered a Category B medication which means that it is probably safe for pregnant women, although the full risks are unknown.

Sodium Bicarbonate and Diabetes

Sodium bicarbonate is an antacid that neutralizes stomach acid and can also be used to make the blood and urine less acidic in certain conditions, such as in diabetes. The use of sodium bicarbonate is a controversial therapy for the treatment of a condition known as diabetic ketoacidosis, which is a diabetic complication occurring when glucose is not available as a fuel source and fat is used instead, thereby increasing acidity of the blood.
