Happy November!
Thank you everyone for your hard work in October, and we're looking forward to an outstanding November!
Congrats to the Winners of the End of October Bonuses!
We are very happy with how many Guides met or exceeded their goals to hit these bonuses. Those Guides that had 50 WisdomCards approved between October 17th and 31st, there was a $25 bonus. Congratulations to Amy M., Catherine, and Judy!
Those Guides who had 100 WisdomCards or more will be getting $5 per WisdomCard instead of the regular $4. A huge congratulations to Jacky, Kenyotta, and Susan!
Our Bonus Program Lets You Earn More
Due to the success of this latest bonus period, we will continue the same structure for the next two weeks.
Any Guide who has at least 50 WisdomCards ($4 WisdomStubs) approved between November 1st and 13th will get a $25 bonus for their hard work. As always, we'd love to see all of you hit this! We have a wonderful team and we know many of you can hit this this level! (We are ending the bonus on the 13th to save our review team from working all weekend!)
And to increase the reward of our top producers, we will bump up the per-WisdomCard pay. Any Guide who hits 100 or more approved WisdomCards between November 1st and 13th will be paid $5 per WisdomCard! This equals $500 for 100 WisdomCards. We'd love to see as many of you earn this (or more!) as possible!
Welcome New Reviewer
We are excited to announce that our long-time Guide Catherine will be joining the review team! We are sure Catherine will be an excellent reviewer and adding her to the team will help get your WisdomCards through the review process even quicker.
MVP Categories
Our current hottest of the hot categories are ADHD, Children’s Health, Asthma, COPD, Flu, Sleep Disorders & Insomnia, and Bipolar Disorder (in that order). Please select from and submit WisdomCards from these categories, which will be separated out at the top of the unclaimed pile within the next few days!
Journal Articles and Dates
When linking to individual journal/magazine articles at PubMed, BNet, or elsewhere, be sure to correctly credit the journal or magazine with the "via" notation. Also, don't forget link dates on single news or journal articles. Dates are only necessary if it is news story or a magazine or journal article where the information can become dated. Ideally information should be less than five years old. Remember that we use AP style for dates, which means you abbreviate the longer month names: Jan., Feb., March, April, May, June, July, Aug., Sept., Oct., Nov. and Dec.
Journal names can sometimes be tricky to locate on PubMed. The journal name will generally be on the line right above the article title (which, of course you will be converting to title case!). There will generally be a "1." and then an underlined abbreviation of the title. If you hold your mouse over that abbreviation, the full journal title will show in a little pop-up. The article date will usually be right next to that. For instance:
* Emergency Medicine Journal (via PubMed): [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19700596 Ludwig's Angina in a 76-Year-Old Man] {{linkdate|Sept. 2009}}
Journal names are usually easier to locate at PubMed Central. The name will usually be at the top of the screen to the right of the PubMed Central logo. For instance:
* Journal of Experimental and Clinical Cancer Research (via PubMed Central): [http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=2438337 Malignant Lymphomas (ML) and HIV Infection in Tanzania] {{linkdate|June 10, 2008}}
If your topic is really technical, or your search is turning up individual journal articles that you are thinking about using, you might want to go directly to PubMed or PubMed Central and run your search there. Then the articles will be listed with the most current at the top of the list, which will allow you look through them and to link to the most relevant and most recent, not just the ones that turn up high on google or another search engine (which may be older).
Homepage Site Links
For those who may have missed the last few training sessions, please make note of the new ruling on using homepages, official sites, and drug sites.
With a foundation or government site, repeating the foundation name (or acronym) plus "Official Site" is preferable:
* American Heart Association: [http://www.americanheart.org AHA Official Site]
For a business or personal site that may not have a motto or mission, it is preferable to repeat the name (or acronym) plus "Homepage":
* Cleveland Clinic: [http://my.clevelandclinic.org/default.aspx Cleveland Clinic Homepage]
For drug topics, the rule is to use "Drug Name Brand Site":
* Abilify: [http://www.abilify.com/ Abilify Brand Site] {{Pharma}}
When Not to Use "via" Notation
If one site is owned by another, or the site name is not the same as the name of the company, business, or hospital that runs the website, there is no need to use a "via" to credit the source.
For example, HealthCentral and Healthcommunities both publish networks of health sites. You would not need a "via" for any of them, like MyBreastCancerNetwork, ColdFluCentral, or OncologyChannel. Unless, of course, they're getting their content from yet another source, other than their "parent sites" HealthCentral or Healthcommunities.

Training Sessions
Training sessions with Julie will continue on a weekly basis, generally on Thursdays. Invites will go out early in the week (as early as possible). If you can't attend the sessions, the slideshows and audio will be available in the forums, usually by the next day.
Personal WisdomCard Goals
Please remember to email Nicole with your personal goals. This just needs to be an estimate of how many WisdomCards you think you can get done. (We won't be disappointed if your personal prediction is low, this is just to help us have a better idea of what kind of output we can expect.) You can let us know weekly, bi-weekly, or even monthly if you know your schedule that far in advance.
Keep up the great work everyone! We have a fantastic team and we're very proud of the work you're doing!
