Research Notes on Zolpidem
Zolpidem is a prescription medication used for the short-term treatment of insomnia. Studies have shown that zolpidem helps patients fall asleep quicker, sleep longer, awaken less frequently, and experience better sleep.1 Fast Facts:
- Zolpidem is sold in the U.S. under the brand name Ambien.2
- This drug can be habit-forming and should be used under the care of a physician.3
- The United States Air Force uses zolpidem as a substitute for temazepam as "no-go pills" to help pilots sleep after a mission.4
- Also used off-label to treat restless leg syndrome.4
