Research Notes on Zestril for Migraines


Using Zestril (lisinopril) to treat migraines is an off-label use of this medication. While Zestril is not FDA-approved to treat migraines, some doctors prescribe it for this purpose. A study published in the British Medical Journal reported Zestril reduced the frequency of migraines, but more studies are needed. ACE inhibitors are prescribed to treat high blood pressure, blocking angiotensin which may be the cause of blood vessel constriction and migraines.
