A warning has been released from Riverside County, California, health officials urging residents to take precautions when swimming in ponds, lakes, and springs. The warning comes on the wake of the passing of a nine year old boy from a brain infection caused by an amoeba Naegleria fowleri. This parasite causes symptoms that resemble viral or bacterial meningitis and it can become fatal anywhere from three to seven days after infection.
