Like any form of exercise, yoga can help in achieving weight loss when done with sufficient frequency and duration, especially when combined with an aerobic form of exercise.1 In fact, many personalities are doing this mind-body exercise to achieve their weight goals. Halle Berry, Liv Tyler, and Madonna are some of then.2 Studies have shown that yoga burns food for energy instead of storing it as fat by lowering the stress hormone levels.3 Although it can be helpful, it is not the best exercise for losing weight; a more vigorous aerobic activity that utilizes big muscle groups is much more effective than yoga alone.4

  • Proper diet and exercise go hand in hand in achieving weight loss.1
  • To make yoga vigorous, a 90-minute yoga class at least three times a week can be helpful.1
