Research Notes on Yaz for PMDD
Yaz, a birth control pill, was approved in 2006 by the FDA for the treatment of premenstrual dysphoric disorder.1 Clinical trials had shown that Yaz was effective in cutting PMDD symptoms by half in most cases.2 Participants in the trials reported an improvement in emotional and physical symptoms of PMDD. Yaz is particularly beneficial in that it provides birth control and relief from some symptoms of PMDD with one pill.3

- Approximately 3-5% of women suffer from PMDD.1
- Possible side effects for Yaz include breast pain and headache.4
- Yaz was the first birth control pill to gain approval by the FDA for treating PMDD.1
