Research Notes on Wound Infection
A wound infection is when germs enter into a break in the skin. These germs or bacteria can come from the enviroment like soil, air, or water. This can also occur when you are bitten by an animal or person.1

- Surgical wound infections occur at the site of the surgery.2
- Symptoms may include a discharge of pus, increasing redness around the wound, pain or swelling, and fever.3
- Treatments can include antibiotics either oral or topical.4
