Heart disease is the number one killer of American women.1 Women with diabetes are two times more likely to have heart disease.1 Also, women who smoke are likely to have a heart attack 19 years earlier than women that do not smoke.1
Fast Facts:
- The death rate from heart disease is substantially higher for minority women, versus white women.2
- In 2003, heart disease claimed the lives of more women that those with all forms of cancer combined.2
- Diagnosis of heart disease is more difficult in women than it is in men.2
