Research Notes on Why Nexium for Me
For many people, Nexium (esomeprazole magnesium) is helpful in relieving heartburn and reducing the amount of acid in the stomach. Nexium is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). PPIs are effective treatments for acid reflux disease. PPIs reduce the production of acid by blocking the enzyme in the wall of the stomach that produces acid.1 This reduces the amount of acid in the stomach. In studies, Nexium has also been shown to heal erosions in the esophagus in nine out of ten patients.2
