A wheat allergy occurs when a person has an allergic reaction to gluten. Gluten is the protein found in wheat, barley, oats and rye.Wheat allergies are among the eight most common food allergies. The most common symptoms associated with a wheat allergy are asthma , eczema, and rarely, anaphylaxis. Another potential reaction can be caused by exercise-dependent anaphylaxis, where the combination of an allergen and physical exertion triggers anaphylactic shock.
