Research Notes on Skelaxin Dosage
The standard dosage for Skelaxin is one tablet taken three to four times daily. Skelaxin is available as an 800 mg tablet and can be taken with or without food. The recommended dosage is similar for adults and children over the age of twelve.1 Skelaxin is a muscle relaxant prescribed to help treat stiffness, pain, and discomfort with muscle injuries.2 Consult a health care professional prior to adjusting or discontinuing medication.

- Skelaxin is a brand name for metaxalone. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved metaxalone in 1962.3
- Food may increase the level of medication in the blood and increase side effects.1
- Dizziness, drowsiness, headache, nausea, upset stomach, and vomiting are the most common side effects of Skelaxin.4
- Not recommended for children under the age of twelve. Currently no pediatric clinical studies have been performed.5
