Research Notes on What Is the Prognosis of Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Although an original squamous cell carcinoma diagnosis comes with a 95% cure rate, the disease is typically recurring.1 If the tumors spread in size, or if they spread to other locations on the body, the prognosis is less promising.1 If the cancer spreads to the lymph nodes or organs in the body, the disease can be fatal.2
Fast Facts:
- The prognosis for squamous cell carcinoma which spreads to the lymph nodes can be as high as 73% with proper treatment.3
- Squamous cell carcinoma of the lungs, however, is not curable.3
- Prompt treatment of suspicious skin lesions helps to ensure an early diagnosis and affords the best possible prognosis for squamous cell carcinoma.1
