Each type of psoriasis has different characteristics and affects different areas of the body. Plaque, guttate, inverse, pustular, and erythrodermic are five types of psoriasis. There is no cure for psoriasis but treatments are available to help with the symptoms.1

Fast Facts:

  • Plaque psoriasis affects approximately 80 percent of psoriasis patients. Characterized by red and white thick patches on skin called plaques.2
  • Guttate psoriasis are small, red, tear drop lesions that generally triggered by fever, colds, strep throat, tonsillitis, or skin injury.2
  • Localized and generalized are the two forms of pustular psoriasis which generally affects the palms of hands and soles of the feet with pus-filled blisters.2
  • Inverse psoriasis is not common but affects areas that have skin folds including armpits, genital area, between buttocks, and under breasts. More common in obese indviduals.2
  • Erythrodermic psoriasis only occurs in one to two percent of patients who develop psoriasis. This form of psoriasis can be life-threatening due to shedding of the skin.2
  • About 10 to 30 percent of people with psoriasis also develop psoriatic arthritis which affects the skin and nails, as well as the joints.3
