Research Notes on Wellbutrin
Wellbutrin is a brand name for the drug bupropion. It is commonly used to treat depression and bipolar disorder.1 Wellbutrin works by blocking the uptake of norepinephrine and dopamine in those individuals with an imbalance.1 Common side effects associated with Wellbutrin use include changes in sex drive, constipation, headaches, loss of appetite, nausea, tremors, and weight loss.2 For complete information, see the bupropion WisdomCard.
Fast Facts:
- Allergic reactions, breathing problems, fast or irregular heartbeat, increased blood pressure, seizures, or unusal fatigue should be reported right away.2
- Also sometimes used as a smoking cessation drug.3
- You should take this medication exactly as directed by your physician. Taking more than the recommended amount can lead to seizures and liver damage.3
