Research Notes on Vitamin K
Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays an important role in blood clotting. It is found in foods such as cabbage, cauliflower, spinach and other green leafy vegetables, cereals, soybeans, and other vegetables.
Fast Facts:
- Vitamin K deficiency is very rare.
- Vitamin K is known as the clotting vitamin, because without it blood would not clot.
- Individuals with vitamin K deficiency are usually more likely to have bruising and bleeding.
- When supervised by a doctor, vitamin K is used to help reverse anticoagulation associated with coumadin therapy.
