Research Notes on Vitamin D and Moods
Sunlight is known to help treat depression such as in seasonal affective disorder (SAD). It has been proven that high doses of vitamin D supplements can replace the patients' lack of exposure to sunlight, especially during the winter months. It is believed that vitamin D increases the levels of serotonin, the neurotransmitter that controls moods, in the brain.
