Research Notes on Vitamin C and Cholesterol
There are two types of cholesterol. The first type is low-density proteins (LDL), often referred to as the “bad” cholesterol because it enables plaque to build up inside of the artery walls, thus causing arteries to narrow and harden blood flow to be restricted. The second type is high-density proteins (HDL), often referred to as the “good” cholesterol because it helps rid the arteries of plaque build up. Research suggests that vitamin C can not only decrease the levels of LDL cholesterol, but it can possibly increase the levels of HDL cholesterol as well.
