Research Notes on Vitamin C Daily Allowance
A healthy person on a balanced diet should be able to get vitamin C needed to prevent symptoms of scurvy, bleeding under the skin (bruising), and extreme weakness from their daily diet without supplementation. Increased intakes of vitamin C are required to maintain normal plasma levels under acute emotional or environmental stress such as trauma, fever, infection, or elevated environmental temperatures. The recommended daily allowance (RDA) of vitamin C is 60-90 milligrams. Smokers are advised to take 35 mg more since smoking depletes vitamin C.
