Thiamin (also called Vitamin B1) helps the body metabolize carbohydrates and fat to produce energy.

Fast Facts:

  • The U.S. Recommended Daily Allowance for adults is 1.2mg daily for males and 1.1mg daily for females.
  • Good sources of thiamin are legumes, beef, pork, whole-grain breads and cereals, oatmeal, enriched pastas, milk, nuts, seeds and oranges.
  • Some studies suggest that taking thiamine 25 to 50 mg three times per day is effective in reducing mosquito bites.
