Research Notes on Video Games and ADHD
Studies suggest that a special video game treatment may benefit youth with ADHD. In a study conducted by NASA, children played certain video games with sensors monitoring their brain waves. If the player's thought patterns become stressed or distracted, the controller became less and less responsive. This requires the player to focus, and reproduce stress free thought patterns to play the game. Ideally, the player will learn to reproduce this type of thinking regularly outside of playing video games.1
Fast Facts:
- There is still controversy between medical professionals over the benefits of video gaming.2
- Some researchers worry that youth with ADHD will mistakenly abandon more validated treatments with the excuse to play more video games.2
- This therapy is probably most beneficial when used to supplement other types of therapy.2
