The Veterans Health Administration is located in Washington, D.C. The Veterans Health Administration is the component of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs that implements the medical assistance program of the VA.1 It accomplishes this with numerous outpatient clinics, hospitals, nursing homes and medical centers.1 It was known as the VA's Department of Medicine and Surgery until the 1980s.1 The Veterans Health Administration operates 172 medical centers, 137 nursing homes, and more than 800 ambulatory care clinics.2
