Vegetarianism is the practice of living on a diet that excludes all animal meats, including chicken, fish, shellfish or crustacea, and slaughter by-products. Reasons for choosing vegetarianism may be related to morality, religion, culture, ethics, aesthetics, environment, society, economy, politics, taste, or health. The earliest records of vegetarianism as a concept and practice amongst a significant number of people concern ancient India and the ancient Greek civilization in Southern Italy and in Greece in the 6th century BCE.
