Research Notes on Vaginismus Causes
Vaginismus is a condition characterized by involuntary tightening of the muscles around the vagina affecting a woman's ability to engage in any form of vaginal penetration. The condition can be primary or secondary; primary vaginismus is typically caused by pain associated with penetration. Secondary vaginismus, on the other hand, may be due to physical causes such as a yeast infection or trauma during childbirth, or it may be due to psychological causes.
