The pessary is an effective tool in the management of a number of gynecologic problems. The pessary is most commonly used in the management of pelvic support defects such as cystocele and rectocele. Pessaries can also be used in the treatment of stress urinary incontinence. 1

  • Pessaries are fit by trial and error.1
  • May be made of plastic or rubber.2
  • Usually a pessary should be removed, cleaned, and reinserted every 2 to 4 weeks.3
