Research Notes on Vaginal Discharge
Vaginal discharge is normal and all women experience it. A normal vaginal discharge is clear and has no foul odor.1 Signs that may indicate infection include change in color of the discharge, heavier flow, and redness and itching that occurs around the reproductive organ.2 Douching, toilet hygiene, and using panty liners and cotton underwear are some personal habits that promote vaginal health.3 Prevention and proper hygiene is important.
Fast Facts:
- Menstruation is a factor that affects the type of vaginal discharge. 1
- It is thicker at specific times like during breastfeeding.4
- Reducing stress can also prevent heavy discharge.5
