Research Notes on VRE
VRE -- or Vancomycin-resistant enterococci -- are a mutation of the normally benign enteroccoccus bacteria that have become resistant to the antibiotic Vancomycin. Enteroccocci are found in the healthy digestive tract and female genital tract, but occationally cause infections in various parts of the body. Most VRE infections occur in hospitals.
