Research Notes on Urothelial Cell Carcinoma


Urothelial cells (also called "transitional cells") line the urinary tract. Cancer which originates in these cells is called either urothelial cell carcinoma or transitional cell carcinoma. Urothelial cell carcinoma can occur anywhere in the urinary tract, most commonly in the bladder or kidney. The exact cause of urothelial cell carcinoma is unknown, but risk factors include cigarette smoking, exposure to certain dyes and chemicals and the misuse of some medications.
