Research Notes on Urokinase
Urokinase is a prescription drug used to dissolve blood clots that have formed in lung blood vessels.1 Side effects of urokinase include bleeding gums, shortness of breath, and nosebleeds.2 Urokinase is administered in a hospital setting and is best when used after blood clots have first been noticed.
Fast Facts:
- If you experience bleeding while using urokinase, inform your physician immediately.
- Rare side effects include hives, wheezing, and a skin rash.2
- There is a slight chance of miscarriage if used within the first five months of pregnancy.2
