Research Notes on Universal Health Care Policy
A universal health care policy is a highly debated political topic. One of the most fundamental challenges is whether or not health care coverage is, or is not, a basic human right. Supporters of a universal care policy say that since the majority of our citizens (about 60%) already receive health care insurance which is government financed, a universal health care policy would simply replace the spending from private individuals and employers, through taxes. Opponents say that unnecessary deaths would occur, due to long wait times for health care, and unequal access to quality care which still exists in other countries which have universal health care. This will most certainly continue to be hotly discussed.
