Research Notes on Unilateral Sensorineural Hearing Loss


Unilateral hearing loss occurs when there is hearing loss in one ear and normal hearing in the opposite ear. Sensorineural refers to hearing loss experienced due to a damaged cochlea (inner ear) and/or auditory nerve. A person with unilateral sensorineural hearing loss may have damage at the auditory nerve and/or brain stem level due to a temporal bone fracture.1
