Research Notes on Ulcerative Colitis and Exercise

Exercise can be beneficial to ulcerative colitis patients as a way to manage stress, fight depression, and strengthen bones. In addition, physical exercise may lower the risk of colorectal cancer, a disease that ulcerative colitis patients are at a greater risk for developing.1 UC patients should consider low-impact activities, plan bathroom breaks while exercising, and always consult with a physician before beginning an exercise program.2
