Research Notes on Ulcerative Colitis Treatment
Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a condition in which there is chronic infection in the colon.1 Although the condition can be treated, it will be a lifelong illness.1 Treatment for UC is largely dependent on the severity and extent of the disease.2
Fast Facts:
- Medications such as infliximab, azathioprine, and cyclosporine may be of benefit in early treatment.2
- It may be necessary to provide surgical treatment in some cases.3
- Remission can occur either naturally or because of medication, but there is no cure.4
