Research Notes on Ulcerative Colitis Genetics

There may be a link between ulcerative colitis and genetics according to a study conducted by the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. The researchers found several DNA markers within families that showed associations with ulcerative colitis. The most common sufferers are of European ancestry.1 Ulcerative colitis is an inflammation of the colon's lining. Symptoms include abdominal pain, cramping, and diarrhea.
