There are several different types of glucometers available on the market today. They are available in different sizes and price ranges. A glucometer is a device that measures the amount of glucose in the blood (also known as blood sugar). 1

Fast Facts:

  • Some glucometers require less blood samples than others.2
  • There are meters available with voice modules or large number displays for those with visual impairments.2
  • A new invention being studied involves a sensor inserted under the skin which will read glucose levels continuously and sound an alarm if blood sugar levels go too high or low, thus eliminating the need to prick your finger.3
