Research Notes on Encephalitis Types
Essentially there are two types of encephalitis: primary and secondary. Primary encephalitis results from viral infection of the brain and spinal cord. This includes herpes simplex encephalitis and the various types of arboviral encephalitis. Secondary encephalitis develops as a complication of a viral infection or reactivation of a latent virus.
