Research Notes on Type 1 Diabetes and Pregnancy
If you have type 1 diabetes and are pregnant, there are certain precautions you have to take to ensure your health and the health of your baby. During your pregnancy, your insulin needs will increase. Monitoring your blood sugar during this time can help to keep it within your targeted level.1 If your blood sugar levels are not carefully controlled during your pregnancy, you are at an increased risk of developing high blood pressure.2

- Women with type 1 diabetes who have uncontrolled blood sugar are at a greater risk of having a baby with birth defects.2
- Your unborn child could possible grow larger than expected if your blood sugar is uncontrolled during pregnancy.2
- Exercising, properly taking medications, and following up with your doctor regularly are important during your pregnancy.1
