Research Notes on Trizivir
Trizivir belongs to a category of HIV medications known as nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors.1 It prevents HIV from entering the nucleus of healthy T-cells, thereby stopping the cells from producing new virus and decreases the amount of virus in the body.1 Trizivir is a combination of three HIV drugs; abacavir, zidovudine and lamivudine.1
- Trizivir is not a cure for HIV or AIDS.
- It is marketed by GlaxoSmithKline.
- Was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2000.
