Torsemide

Torsemide (Demadex) is a 'water pill' used to reduce fluid retention (edema) and swelling caused by heart disease, liver disease and other conditions. It is also prescribed to patients with high blood pressure. Torsemide can cause potent diuretic effects, therefore it is important to keep a check on your body's electrolyte balances to avoid possible dehydration.

Fast Facts:

  • Works by acting on the kidneys to increase the flow of urine.
  • May cause a loss of potassium from your body
  • Contraindicated in patients who are anuric.
  • In studies conducted in the United States and Europe, discontinuation rates due to side effects were 3.0%
