Research Notes on Top Hospitals for Aortic Valve Replacement
The top hospital for aortic valve replacement, according to U.S. News and World Report, is the Cleveland Clinic. The Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, at the Cleveland Clinic, is one of the largest, most experienced cardiac surgery groups in the world.1 The other top five heart specialty hospitals are the Mayo Clinic (Minnesota), Johns Hopkins Hospital (Baltimore), Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston), and the Texas Heart Institute (Houston).1 The more heart valve replacement operations performed at a hospital, the more likely the surgeons there will insert the type of aortic valve deemed safest, new research finds.2
Fast Facts:
- Every year since 1990, the Cleveland Clinic has been designated by U.S. News and World Report as one of only 10 hospitals in the United States to be considered “The Best of the Best.”3
- The other top 10 hospitals for aortic valve replacement are Brigham and Women's Hospital (Boston), New York-Presbyterian University Hospital (New York City), Duke University Medical Center (Durham, NC), Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia), and Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center (Los Angeles).1
- It is important to consider your doctor’s recommendations before selecting a hospital, as your doctor may have reasons for selecting a hospital based on your own medical history and needs.
