Research Notes on Tizanidine for Multiple Sclerosis
Tizanidine (Zanaflex) is used to treat the spasticity associated with multiple sclerosis.1 Tizanidine works by relieving the spasms, cramping, and tightness of the muscles.2 Tizanidine is effective for up to six hours after dosing. Possible side effects of tizanidine include dizziness, drowsiness, and constipation.1
Fast Facts:
- If you have kidney disease or liver disease, you should let your health care provider know before taking tizanidine.2
- If you experience fainting, fever, or abdominal pain while taking tizanidine, seek medical attention.1
- While taking tizanidine, your health care provider may perform liver function tests periodically.3
