Research Notes on Tiotropium
Tiotropium is a bronchodilator that is used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.1 In March, 2008, the Food and Drug Administration alerted health care professionals that there is an increased risk of stroke in patients who use tiotropium.2 It is not intended to treat a sudden attack of wheezing or shortness of breath.3
Fast Facts:
- Marketed under the brand name Spiriva
- Long lasting (24 hours).1
- Content of the capsules is inhaled using a special inhaler. Do not swallow capsules.4
- After each dose of tiotropium rinse mouth with water.5
