Thrombocythemia (thrombocytosis), an elevation of platelet count, is normal after a surgery. When our body gets wounded and bleeds (such as in surgical procedures), the platelets act to promote clotting to prevent further bleeding. An increased platelet count may result to knee surgery complications such as a hematoma (collection of blood).
