Research Notes on Throat Cancer and Smoking
Another name for throat cancer is cancer of the pharynx. It is one of several kinds of head and neck cancer. The risk is greater for males than females, and it increases with age. Alcohol use, smoking, and chewing tobacco greatly increase your risk of throat cancer. If you smoke, ask your physician for information on the various methods available to help you quit.
