Throat Cancer

Primarily caused by smoking, throat cancer can affect any part of the mouth or throat. Recent studies also show that human papillomavirus (HPV) may be the cause in as much as 20 percent of oral cancers.

  • Symptoms of throat cancer may include a sore in your mouth that doesn't heal, persistent pain in your mouth and throat, painful or difficult swallowing, a persistent cough, and swelling or pain in the neck.
  • Causes of throat cancer are smoking, excessive alcohol use, and certain type of HPV.
