Thermodesulfobacteria is a small group of thermophilic sulfate-reducing bacteria.1 Thermodesulfobacteria is the phylum of thermophiles. It can completely oxidize acetate and some fatty acids. It also produces nonisoprenoid branched glycerol diethers.2

  • It has been proposed to use sulfate reducing bacteria to treat acid mine waters.3
  • Oxidation of sulfur is called dissimilatory sulfur metabolism.3
