Research Notes on Therapy Dogs
A Therapy Dog is a dog trained especially to be used in nursing homes, hospitals, mental institutions and prisons. Therapy dogs are different than service dogs, where their main responsibility is to provide affection and comfort to people in need. A therapy dog's main job is to allow unfamiliar people to make physical contact with him and to welcome that contact.
