Research Notes on Temporal Lobe ADD
Temporal lobe ADHD is one of the six types of ADHD as defined by Dr. Daniel Amen. Temporal lobe ADHD is like the other types of ADHD in that it is characterized by being inattentive.1 This type of ADHD may also have the following symptoms: impulsivity, antisocial behavior, problems learning and terrible handwriting, dark moods and big mood swings, and constantly breaking the rules.1 This type of ADHD responds better to antiseizure medications, than to stimulants.2 Getting your ADHD diagnosed by a doctor is important.
Fast Facts:
- While St. John's wort may be recommended for somw types of ADHD, it is not recommended for temporal lobe ADHD.1
- Some recommend supplements like ginkgo biloba and vitamin E.3
- Since temporal lobe ADHD is characterized by problems with the prefrontal cortex and the temporal area of the brain, this ADHD may be caused by a head injury.3
- The other five types of ADD according to Dr. Amen are classic ADD, inattentive ADD, over-focused ADD, ring of fire ADD, and limbic ADD.3
